secret project reveal

so my secret project was unveiled to what i believe to be a great success! while planning my recent birthday party i came upon a 'flower garden jubilee' theme. odd theme? perhaps. my inspirations were my birth month, may, which is know for flowers and my lifelong anglophilia which inspired the pomp of making everyone drink cocktails and wear ribbons.

i'll be writing about the rest of my party details soonly but let's focus on the ribbons for now. i spent a good 6+ weeks sewing these babies by hand and i have to say, i'm super pleased with how they came out.

it's actually really weird being finished with them- it was so time consuming that it feels odd not to wake up and immediately go hunker down on the couch with my needle and thread anymore. each ribbon took close to two hours to make! and i made 27 of them!

here are pics of the progression and end results-

the last element of the ribbons was to use them for a party game. i wrote a word on a small sticker and placed one on the back of each ribbon. the object was to try and get people to say the word on your ribbon in conversation.

one example is how my friend miq nonchalantly worked aquaman into conversation, getting other people to tell him "what was the animal aquaman rode on??" well it was a "seahorse"! did i mention miq was really good at this?? he and leah were tied at the end of the night, having each collected three ribbons. though i'm pretty certain had miq and thuy not had to leave to relieve their babysitter, miq's rampage would have been devastating!

so yes, success. thanks to all who made my party and are now giving my ribbons good homes.
